Haría recorded the highest temperature in Lanzarote and La Graciosa during the first heatwave of the summer. This is reflected in the Climatological Advance of the Canary Islands for the past month of June from the State Meteorological Agency,

The average temperature of the archipelago was the sixth warmest since data began to be recorded in 1961. It was also the fifteenth driest of the last 64 years, as it only rained 29% of what was expected. This reality was aggravated in some areas, for example, on islands like Lanzarote and La Graciosa there were no precipitations recorded.

By provinces, the temperature anomaly was greater in the eastern islands, with the highest average temperature in La Graciosa, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, than in the western islands. Specifically, in the province of Las Palmas temperatures were 0.7 degrees warmer than usual, making last June the fifth warmest in recent decades.

The mismatch was also felt in the maximum and minimum temperatures, which were 0.6 degrees and 0.7 degrees, respectively, higher than expected for the sixth month of the year.

As for the tropical nights, that is, those where the temperature recorded more than 20 degrees, this past June was the fifth warmest in its history during the night. Specifically, 59.6% of the stations distributed throughout the archipelago have recorded nights above 20 degrees. This situation was only worse in 2017, 2023, 2020 and 2016.

The maximum temperatures of the archipelago during the month were recorded in Gran Canaria, which reached 39.3 degrees in the interior of the island. In contrast, Lanzarote and La Graciosa occupy the last positions in the table, with 32.1 and 26.1 degrees. In the case of Lanzarote, the highest temperature occurred on June 28 at the meteorological station located in the Haría Cemetery, while in La Graciosa it was repeated on the 13th and 26th of the month, at the Heliport station, with a maximum of 26.1 degrees.

The same happened with the highest minimums of the archipelago. Gran Canaria reached a minimum of 29.6 degrees, occupying the first position. Meanwhile, Lanzarote was placed in seventh place, with 21.6 degrees of highest minimum and La Graciosa in last place, with 21.

While the whole month the weather was controlled by anticyclonic situations and the presence of the trade winds, from the 25th a subtropical African ridge approached the Canary Islands, which raised the temperature more than three degrees above what was expected during the last days of the month. The anticyclone and the trade winds managed to lower the temperatures again, which remained 1.8 degrees above normal.

Thus, despite the fact that Lanzarote suffered the presence of wind throughout the month, the maximum gusts recorded in the Canary Islands occurred in Gran Canaria, with speeds of up to 87 kilometers per hour.
