The esplanade of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has been the scene this Friday morning of a protest rally to demand the opening of gyms and sports centers. And these establishments have been closed for a month, after the restrictions established by the Government of the Canary Islands began to increase due to the high Covid rates in Lanzarote.

"We are the solution, open now", shouted the protesters in front of the doors of the first institution, who also carried banners. "We are not leisure, we are essential", could be read on one of them.

Specifically, since Lanzarote moved to level 3 of health alert on January 15, the practice of physical and sports activity in the interior areas of facilities and sports centers is prohibited, and the measure remains in force on the island, as it is currently at health alert level 4. Sports practice is only allowed indoors at levels 1 and 2, although with capacity limitations.
