The former parish priest of San Bartolomé until 2011, Gonzalo Fernández Parrilla, has died at the age of 81. The funeral chapel is installed in his native municipality of Tinajo and at 12 noon this Wednesday the funeral will be celebrated, before the burial in the local cemetery.
Fernández Parrilla was born in 1939 and from a very young age he felt attracted to religious life, entering in 1954 in the Seminary of Las Palmas. In 1967 he received the priestly ordination from the hands of Bishop Infantes Florido and since then he was a parish priest in different places in the province.
Among other things, he was archpriest in the area of Gáldar and in Fuerteventura, as well as Territorial Vicar of the north-central area of Gran Canaria. In 2001 he was appointed parish priest of San Bartolomé by Bishop Ramón Echarren, where he served until October 14, 2011.
In addition, Gonzalo Fernández Parrilla also dedicated himself to teaching and gave religion classes in several institutes in the Canary Islands and in the School of Mercantile Experts, and was a trainer at the Minor Seminary of Tafira.
