The town of Lanzarote has turned to the death of a baby after being hit by a vehicle in Playa Blanca earlier this week. The site of the accident, in the middle of the town's avenue, has been filled with bouquets of flowers, stuffed animals and candles to remember the five-month-old girl who lost her life on Monday afternoon.

Her parents and maternal grandparents, all of English nationality, were walking the newborn along the Archipiélago avenue, in the coastal town. At that moment, a vehicle ran over the creature, her relatives and two other women, of Swedish nationality, who were walking through the place. The baby died at the scene, while other people were injured of varying severity.

Four of the affected women suffered serious polytrauma and two others moderate multiple contusions. While the two injured men had trauma to one leg.

The two women of Swedish nationality, mother and daughter, had only been on the island for three hours when at 6:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon they were hit by a vehicle.

According to the Yaiza City Council, the driver who caused the accident, a 23-year-old woman of British origin, but residing in Playa Blanca, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

As La Voz learned this past Wednesday from sources at the Molina Orosa Hospital, the three people who remained under observation have been admitted to different floors of the hospital and are progressing favorably. While the two people who are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are stable within the severity.

Meanwhile, there is a sixth person who was transferred to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria during the same night of Monday.
