The driver who caused the accident showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as reported by the Yaiza City Council. The woman under investigation is a 23-year-old woman of British origin and resident in Playa Blanca.
However, the Local Police of Yaiza, in charge of investigating the incident, is keeping the investigation open.
As will be recalled, the accident took place on Monday afternoon on Archipiélago Street when a vehicle ran over seven people walking on the sidewalk. A baby of about five months died at the scene and six other people were injured to varying degrees. These are four women, two of whom presented severe polytrauma and the other two moderate contusions, and two men who presented a moderate leg injury.
The Yaiza City Council conveys its solidarity to the victims and their families and appreciates the coordinated intervention of all security and emergency forces.
