More heat and less rain. That is the balance left by the month of February compared to the same period of the previous year, when there were two degrees less of average temperature and more than double the accumulated rainfall.
In fact, last month only 9.1 liters per square meter were recorded at the airport, compared to 19.6 a year ago. Regarding the temperature, the average this year has been 19.8 degrees, compared to 17.6 in February 2021, according to information collected by the Lanzarote Data Center, which takes as a reference the meteorological station of the César Manrique Airport.
In relation to rainfall, the decrease has been considerable compared to last year, although not compared to other years. In fact, in 2020 there was not even a rain in that month -at least at the airport station-, and in 2019 only 4.6 liters per square meter of accumulated precipitation were recorded.
However, in previous years there were significant rainfall data in February, highlighting the 44.7 liters per square meter in 2018, or the 48.2 in 2016.
Regarding the temperature, February is usually the coldest month of the year, but this time it has not been the case, since an average of 19.8 degrees was reached, when in January it was 18.1 degrees. Compared to previous years, it has also been one of the warmest Februarys, surpassed only by that of 2020, which was slightly higher, with 19.9. In general, the temperature in February moves in Lanzarote in a range between 16 and 20 degrees, and the lowest average in the last 5 years was in 2018, with 16.15 degrees.
