Lanzarote says goodbye this Monday to Carlos Curbelo, the last person to die from Covid on the island, who was a worker in the Sports area of the Cabildo for many years.
Brother of the former councilor of Arrecife, Lolina Curbelo, he "was a speaker at the Ironman and at the gymnastics festival" that bears his sister's name, as César, another of his brothers, recalls.
Carlos Curbelo "was always a sports man" and for years he was also part of the Torrelavega handball club. In addition, he was in charge of the Insular Handball Delegation and also worked at the Sports City. Currently, he was the president of the San Bartolomé Municipal Music Band and "played the saxophone."
"He has always been a very active, affectionate and cheerful man," says his brother, who says that the family is "terrible" after his death, because Carlos "was like a father."

And it is that, although Carlos Curbelo had been admitted to the ICU for "almost two months" and had "other pathologies because he had had heart surgery", the family had "the hope" that he would recover. However, sadly this Monday morning they have had to mourn his death, leaving behind a wife, a son, a daughter and two grandchildren.
