The Ecologists in Action (EEA) association has joined the criticism for the celebration of the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally, as Northeast Wind (Desert Watch) and the association Papa Cría. have already done.

Ecologists in Action denounce that the celebration of the event "coincides precisely with the nesting of protected species". "At least 85 protected species nest in the route where the rally will be held. Among them, four are listed as endangered and seven as vulnerable", they point out from the association.

EEA denounces that the organization of the Isla de los Volcanes rally "has not taken into account the singularities of Lanzarote" and has chosen to propose its realization "in a route and a key period for the island's biodiversity, that is, in the nesting season of different protected birds".

"It is deplorable that the organization has not sought other dates and another route to avoid causing this irreparable damage that with a little will and interest could have been prevented and asks that it be taken into account in the future", they add from the association.

Likewise, the environmental association calls for "sensibility" and demands the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Biosphere Reserve, business and tourism associations and, above all, the organizing entities "to prevent or be more scrupulous in the organization of activities that may seriously and irreversibly damage the landscape of Lanzarote as well as habitats of protected species".

"Leisure, fun, recreational and even sports activities cannot be above the protection of nature, since our way of life and the tourist attraction of Lanzarote also depend on its safeguard and integrity", they point out from Ecologists in Action.

Ecologists in Action also understands that the organization should "try to minimize the aggressive effects that this activity causes on the territory", such as: "pollution, both environmental and acoustic, damage to traffic due to so many vehicles, public and logistics that will cause in biodiversity and in the territory both during the preparation and during the celebration of this event".

"A Biosphere Reserve cannot be proud of carrying out activities that are disrespectful to its environmental values that must be a priority for the conservation and sustainable development of this island", conclude from Ecologists in Action.
