The Papacría environmental association has also demanded the removal of the section of the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally that crosses the El Jable area, just as the Viento del Noreste (Deser Watch) association did this week.
Papacría emphasizes that in that area there are "different protected species", both flora and fauna, and that some of them are even "in danger of extinction". "In that area there is a fragile ecosystem, with flora and fauna especially sensitive to any action that is carried out in this environment," they add from the association.
In addition, they clarify that this ecosystem is so sensitive because steppe birds "nest directly on the ground", which can mean "great stress for them" the passage of the Rally through that area. "It would lead to the abandonment of their young", denounces the association, which emphasizes that the "endemic and unique" flora of this place also suffers "the consequences of holding this type of event."
Just as they pointed out from Viento del Noreste, from Papa Cría they also point out that the presence of fans of this type of event has an impact on the ecosystem. "The abandonment of garbage or the compression of the sand due to the passage of these vehicles is detected," they add.
Therefore, the association demands that the values of this "vulnerable and delicate" ecosystem be "respected, protected and conserved", and that therefore the section that passes through El Jable be "definitively eliminated".
