The Club Deportivo Orientación Marítima of Lanzarote has expressed its "deep regret" and "immense sadness" when communicating the death of the minor from Guinea Bissau Ibrahima Cámara, a young soccer promise who has died in Lanzarote at the age of 14.

The minor died after being hit by a car this past Saturday on the road between Arrecife and San Bartolomé. According to the club, Ibrahima was waiting to be officially signed by the club, but he was already part of the sports family and actively participated in training, showing talent, enthusiasm and dedication on the field.

"Ibrahima came to the team with big dreams and a promising future, not only on the field, but in every aspect of his life," they said from the club, from where they revealed that "his passion for soccer, his commitment to teamwork left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing with him. His departure not only leaves a void in our hearts, but also in the spirit of our club."

In this line, the team has highlighted that "in these moments of immeasurable pain, our thoughts and prayers are with Ibrahima's family, his friends and loved ones, both in Lanzarote and in Guinea Bissau. We recognize that the loss of a loved one is an extremely difficult moment and we want to express our most sincere empathy and support to all those affected by this tragic loss."

In addition, as a sign of mourning, the Club Deportivo Orientación Marítima of Lanzarote has decided to suspend all training sessions scheduled for this Monday. "We want to provide our players, coaching staff and the entire club community with the space to reflect and honor Ibrahima's memory. It will be a time for us, as a sports family, to unite in solidarity and mutual support," they concluded.

"He was a good and affectionate boy"

The minor's friends and close acquaintances have wanted to show their condolences for his death. One of the mothers of a close friend describes the young man as "a good and affectionate boy." She remembers that he was "very excited" to play for the Club Deportivo Orientación Marítima of Lanzarote and enthusiastic about studying at the IES Agustín Espinosa institute. "He had things very clear," she says.

His environment is devastated with the news of his death. "In Valterra he leaves many desolate friends," the woman acknowledges. The last memory she has of the boy is having picked him up and taken him home after the Puerto del Carmen Carnivals. "The last time I saw him was when I brought him from the carnivals, I left him at the Marino's house and he went up the stairs very happy," she recalls with sadness.

In addition, she emphasizes the great integration he already had on the island. "It didn't take much to get along with the boys in the neighborhood." In the same way, Councilor Marci Acuña has expressed his sadness for the death and has reported that it was a "success story" of integration in Lanzarote.
