The Lanzarote businessman Juan Perdomo Rodríguez, creator of the first cinemas on the island, died this Friday at the age of 86.

Perdomo, brother of the former mayor of Tinajo, Luis Perdomo, opened his first cinema in Tinajo in 1958, at only 24 years old, after returning from Venezuela.

After that, Juan Perdomo launched the Díaz Pérez, Hollywood and Triana cinemas in Arrecife, together with the La Villa cinema in Teguise and the San Bartolomé cinema as recounted in the documentary 'The Dream Delivery Man', which narrates the life of this businessman.

Likewise, at the same time he launched the Marga and Gran Tarajal cinemas in Fuerteventura, the Capri in Telde and the Agüimes cinema.

In 1987 he opened the Odeón in Lanzarote, the first multiplexes on the island, which were inaugurated with the screening of 'Nine and a Half Weeks'. In addition, in the 90s he opened other multiplexes in the Canary Islands, such as La Ola in Puerto del Rosario, the Auditorio cinemas in Gran Tarajal and Tamaragua in Corralejo and the Infanta Cristina in La Gomera.

Perdomo not only left his mark on Lanzarote and the rest of the Canary Islands, but also in countries such as Equatorial Guinea. There, in 1991, he opened a cinema in the city of Malabo.

In addition to being the creator of the first cinemas in Lanzarote, he was also responsible for the arrival to the Islands of artists such as Julio Iglesias, Antonio Machín or Manolo Escobar
