With great solemnity, Arrecife celebrated the great day of its patron saint, San Ginés. At 12:00 noon, the celebration of the Solemn Eucharist began, presided over by the Reverend Sebastián Wydrowski, a Polish priest who is pursuing doctoral studies in canon law at the University of Navarra and who was assisted by five fellow priests, including Miguel Hernández, parish priest of San Ginés, and three young seminarians.

The songs for the celebration of such a special day were directed by Professor Carmen Dolores Rodríguez. The capacity of parishioners inside the temple, complying with the regulations established by Health in this time of pandemic, is 108 people, with the civil and military authorities residing on the island occupying the first rows.

Once again, the procession of the image of San Ginés through the main streets of the city was suspended. On such a special day, and when there are only a few days left before the parish priest Miguel Hernández is transferred, everyone thought that he was going to say a few words of farewell, but he was very clear that on the feast of the Patron Saint, San Ginés was the protagonist and although he said a few short words of thanks, he informed everyone that his official farewell will be on September 4 and 5 in the parish.

Precisely in the greeting included in the festival program, the parish priest said goodbye like this: "And after the San Ginés 2021 festivities, the time for my farewell arrives. I want to take advantage of these lines to simply express my feelings of praise, gratitude, forgiveness and supplication. Praise to God who is not far from his people, and sustains us with a powerful and merciful hand. Gratitude for so many people and events that remain engraved in my memory. Forgiveness for my mistakes and limitations, for the evil I have committed. And Supplication to the Father so that we may be witnesses of the Good News of Jesus in each of his areas. He is the only Way, Truth and Life. Exciting challenges are opening up for the immediate future. They will have a great parish priest, a good priest and an old friend. Juan Carlos Medina who knows Lanzarote very well. Here he will feel very welcomed, respected and supported by all. Welcome".
