Aemet decrees a new yellow alert for this Thursday in Lanzarote for temperatures of up to 35 degrees

The State Meteorological Agency has announced the extension of the yellow warning for high temperatures until this Wednesday, June 28 in Lanzarote.

This Tuesday, June 27, there will be cloudy intervals of medium clouds on the island. The haze will be present in Lanzarote. And temperatures will reach 34-36 degrees in areas of the interior and south. In addition, there will be a light northwest wind, which will blow moderately on the south and east slopes during the first half of the day.

On Wednesday, June 28, the sky will be clear with cloudy intervals. Temperatures will reach 36 degrees, mainly affecting midlands and inland areas. Although on the coasts it will only affect locally. In addition, the haze will continue to affect mainly midlands and high areas. In the first hours there will be intervals of medium clouds.

The Canary Islands Government Health Department has compiled a decalogue of recommendations in the face of the high temperatures that are going to reach the island. Among the recommendations that should be followed by people vulnerable to them, such as people over 65 years of age, infants, pregnant women, environmental, local and work-related, among others.

In the face of this yellow alert, you should stay as long as possible in cool, shady or air-conditioned places, and cool off whenever you need to. Reduce physical activity and avoid outdoor sports in the central hours of the day.

In addition, it would be advisable to drink water or liquids frequently, even if you do not feel thirsty and regardless of the physical activity you do. It is necessary to avoid drinks with caffeine, alcohol or very sugary, as they can promote dehydration.

Pay special attention to: babies, children, pregnant or lactating women, as well as elderly people or people with diseases that may be aggravated by heat (such as heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cancer, pathologies that make mobility difficult, dementia and other mental illnesses, as well as drug or alcohol abuse). Although anyone can suffer a problem related to heat.

As for clothing, wearing light, loose clothing that allows perspiration is necessary, without leaving anyone in a parked and closed vehicle (especially minors, elderly or with chronic diseases).

In the event of prolonged symptoms lasting more than one hour and related to high temperatures, consult a health professional. In addition, it is highly recommended to eat light meals that help replenish the salts lost through sweat (salads, fruits, vegetables, juices, etc.). Medicines should also be kept in a cool place, as heat can alter their composition and effects.
