The Dante Alighieri Society – Canary Islands Committee, the Committee of the VII Centenary of the discovery of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands by the Italian navigator Lanzarotto Malocello and the Association of Italian Friends of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Humanities of Lanzarote (ACIHL), will pay tribute to Enrique Pérez Parrilla, who passed away on August 14, 2021.
The event is part of the events that the ACIHL organizes annually in memory of the Canarian scientist Blas Felipe Cabrera, which is scheduled to take place on May 25, 26 and 27, 2022. Parrila, who was a professor of Physics and Mathematics, was four times president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, deputy and mayor of Arrecife.
The commemorative event will take place on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the assembly hall of the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife. The organization points out that the figure of Enrique Pérez Parrilla will be remembered by the lawyer and magistrate Alfonso Licata, president of the various cultural associations promoting the initiative, “for his humanity and the great friendship that united him to the Italians and his cultural commitment in favor of various projects of Italian culture”.
The aforementioned associations explain that, among other things, Licata is the author of various pictorial exhibitions of works by Italian artists, in addition to being co-promoter of the celebrations of the seventh centenary of the discovery of Lanzarote by the Italian navigator of Varazze Lanzarotto Malocello and member of the Honorary Committee. Likewise, more recently, he was a founding member of the Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society of the Canary Islands.
In turn, Professor Francisco González De Posada, president of the ACIHL, will speak about the character and his merits from a scientific point of view, and in particular in the field of Mathematics and Physics, of which he was a scholar and teacher.
During the event, to which representatives of the local Canarian Institutions and the media will be invited, Licata will present the widow, Nieves Rosa Hernández Gorrín, with an official diploma of merit issued in memory of Enrique Pérez Parrilla, in recognition of Perpetual Honorary Member by the Rome headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society, signed by the president, Andrea Riccardi.
Also, on behalf of the Committee of the VII Centenary of the Discovery of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands by Lanzarotto Malocello, Parilla will be awarded the official Medal celebrating the historical-geographical event, created by the Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, in a limited edition on the occasion of the anniversary.
