Salinas de Janubio, SL has inaugurated this Friday a sculptural ensemble in recognition of the salt workers who, for more than a century, have worked in this space. The sculptural ensemble is the work of Cintia Machín Morín.
The inauguration was carried out by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo Berriel, who highlighted the effort made by hundreds of families from the surrounding area in these salt flats.

“In recognition of the salt workers of Janubio and Francisco Padrón Viñas (1921-2013) for his contribution to the cultural space of the Salinas de Janubio,” reads the commemorative plaque.
The initiative came from Carlos Padrón, who represents the third generation of producers in Janubio, a space in which sea salt has been produced uninterruptedly since the end of the 19th century.

The sculptural piece also pays tribute to Francisco Padrón Viñas, father of Carlos Padrón and doctor of Yaiza since 1949, who dedicated a large part of his life to the production of artisanal sea salt in Janubio.
Carlos Padrón emphasized that the sculpture "seeks to recognize the contribution made by many families in the production of sea salt by artisanal methods, which has allowed these salt flats, which are the largest and most valuable in the Canary Islands, to be preserved."

The mayor of Yaiza, Oscar Noda, also spoke at the event, expressing his wish that "this valuable space can recover the landscape splendor it had until the decline of the fishing sector occurred."
