After the success of the first edition of "Siembra. Cinema for young people", this month of May begins a new cycle with 8 films that will be free, and for which people under 35 years of age will have priority. After the screening there will be a debate in a room at the Atlántida cinemas in Arrecife in which participation and dialogue with the public will be encouraged.
"The success of the first edition of Siembra, with sessions attended by more than one hundred people, is a clear testimony that young people in Lanzarote are looking for and have an interest in culture and social issues that matter to the world today. That is why it is essential to work to give these young people quality content and that leisure is, at the same time, an activity in which to meet other people, listen, learn and share".
Therefore, among the objectives of this initiative, according to the Association, is "the implementation of an activity that gives young people the possibility to deepen their knowledge of cinema and use that knowledge to analyze and better understand the different social realities." Thus, the young citizens of Lanzarote will be better prepared to face the challenges that the current world faces: equality, health and well-being, education, social conflicts, environment, etc.
All the films deal with social issues, come from different eras and countries and belong to different genres: science fiction, drama, tragicomedy, etc.
As in the first edition, to encourage the debates, groups, associations and people from the island who have links with the themes of each film will be invited. In this way, young people will also have the opportunity to meet relevant people from the associative or institutional sector of Lanzarote.
The films and dates of the second edition of 'Siembra. Cinema for young people' are Cinco Lobitos, on May 26; Welcome, on June 30; Dersu Uzala, on July 28; Cube, on August 25; Hoy Empieza Todo, on September 29; Amor, on October 27; 12 angry men, on November 10 and The thin red line on December 29.
Premiere of "Cinco lobitos"
The film for this coming May 26 is 'Cinco Lobitos' which premieres this week in Spain and, therefore, can also be seen for the first time in Lanzarote. The screening will be at the Atlántida multiplex cinemas at 7:00 p.m.
The film talks about how a young couple has their first baby and the changes that occur both within their own intimate relationship and the role played by grandparents who inexorably enter old age.
'Cinco Lobitos' talks about all the transformations that motherhood produces, where the protagonist is suddenly a mother and daughter and must love but also needs to be loved. In it we see how a newborn can be both a joy and a difficulty, how their family and the environment react to the new situation.
On this occasion, we will have the participation of the associations 'Amar y Criar' and 'Mujeres en la Ola' for the debate.
