The Tías City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare and Family, assisted a total of 576 people in 2023 whose basic needs required coverage. The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the councilor of the area, Nicolás Saavedra, confirm "the intense activity" of the community social services, "so we have reinforced our team to serve the community."

Nicolás Saavedra explained that "the city council allocates benefits to meet basic needs for food, acquisition of medicines and rental assistance to avoid evictions, in addition to extraordinary needs such as the acquisition of wheelchairs, canes, hearing aids, school supplies and social dining, therapeutic treatments, acquisition of glasses, household goods, etc."

Community social services have been a fundamental pillar in Tías, offering information, guidance and support to the cohabitation unit, in addition to a home help service that assisted 36 people last year. The city council has reinforced its work team thanks to employment agreements that help to expand the response capacity.

Thanks to the subsidies requested from the Cabildo de Lanzarote to address situations of vulnerability, the Council was able to assist 70 family units in 2023, of which 74 were minors and 70 were adults. It was also possible to intervene in the prevention of evictions and assistance was provided in the rehabilitation and accessibility of homes linked to 16 family units.

Through the 'Basic Benefits Agreed Plan' of the Ministry of Social Rights that transfers to the autonomous communities, the City Council of Tías received "271,811.23 euros" to finance the programs framed by the community social services.

Thus, from the municipal Social Services, "568,000 euros in nominated subsidies to projects of 33 associations" were granted last year, which provided services to the citizens of the municipality through the community strategy 'Conecta Tías', promoting intercultural reception and social activism, all aligned with the SDGs of the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda. This initiative has the support of different administrations.

Likewise, workshops, talks, free Spanish classes for foreigners, social care sessions and gender equality training have been organized, actions that reflect the commitment of the consistory to a more inclusive and conscious society.
