The tourism and industrial sector, together with second homes, consume more drinking water than the households of Lanzarote. This is reflected in the water balance of 2024, signed by Canal Gestión Lanzarote and the Water Consortium of the island, which La Voz has been able to access.

Specifically, those who have contracted the tourist and industrial rate consumed 6.2 million cubic meters of drinking water, which represents 46% of the total. Ahead of the second largest consumers: households. The residents of the island account for 43.4% of the total water consumed, with 5.8 million cubic meters.

In this sense, farmers and ranchers use 6.4% of the total, with 864,909 cubic meters; meanwhile, the corporate rate uses 4.19%.

The company in charge of the integral water cycle on the island sold a total of 94,461 cubic meters of water in tanks in 2024.

 

Consumption data by municipalities

The municipality that consumes the most water is Tías, with an expenditure of 3.2 million cubic meters of drinking water. In this locality, 17.7% of subscribers consume 24.18% of the drinking water.

After that, Arrecife, the municipality with the most subscribers on the island, 36.4% of the total, consumed 21.24% of the drinking water.

In third position, Teguise and La Graciosa consumed 18.88% of the drinking water for 16.6% of the subscribers.

In fourth place, Yaiza, with 8.6% of the subscribers, consumed 18.83% of the drinking water produced. After that, San Bartolomé with 11.5% of the subscribers used 9.95% of the drinking water. In the case of Haría and Tinajo, with 5.2% and 3.9% of the subscribers, they consumed 3.28% and 3.65% of the supply.
