IES Teguise has recently organized a first working day, in collaboration with the Teguise City Council and the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) Zonzamas, within the innovation project called 'Green Management'. This project aims to provide students with new, more modern and sustainable tools in agricultural operations.

The mayoress of Teguise and head of the area of Agriculture and the primary sector, Olivia Duque, emphasizes "the excellent work carried out by IES Teguise with the implementation of this type of innovative and sustainable projects, since it is essential that the new generations, interested in agriculture and gardening, are trained and know the new techniques and tools, which are increasingly respectful with the environment".

"Young people are a fundamental pillar for the impulse that the countryside and our crops need. They are the key and will have to face problems as serious as the lack of water, the devastating effects of climate change or the increase in the costs of raw materials, among others," says Duque.

Thanks to the IES Teguise project, the students of the Agroecological Production Training Cycle and PFPBA of Auxiliary Activities in Nurseries and Garden Centers, together with the students of the Gardening and Floristry Cycle of the CIFP Zonzamas have had the opportunity to make ecological compost, a natural organic fertilizer produced from materials such as leaf debris, branches or manure, among others. Thanks to this type of compost, no chemicals or artificial processes are used, which makes it more respectful with the environment.

After shredding the pruning and crop remains to proceed to make compost, the students of these cycles made pellets that will serve as fertilizer for the crops that are being carried out in the Agroindustrial Complex of Teguise.

In addition, these students were also able to carry out practices with the tractor, and the motor cultivator and were able to know the battery tools, which are charged with solar panels, such as the blower, chainsaw, edger or hedge trimmer lance, among others, and that replace the combustion tools.
