The organization of the Global South Forum has announced the cancellation of its next edition, scheduled for this Friday, March 20, in the emblematic San José Castle, due to the serious incidents caused by storm Therese, which has caused the cancellation of the former president's flight.

From the organization, all those people who had already acquired their tickets are informed that these will remain valid for the new date, which will be announced in the coming days.

The event was going to feature the prominent participation of the former President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, who would star in a new edition of the Global South Forum 2026 Dialogues. During his speech, planned as the central axis of the meeting, Rajoy was scheduled to address the main geopolitical, economic, and institutional challenges facing Europe and Spain in the current international context.

Among the topics to be discussed stood out institutional stability, democratic soundness, international cooperation, economic growth, and Spain's positioning on the global stage, all of this from the perspective of his/her experience at the head of the Executive in a key stage for the country's stability.

The event had also confirmed the attendance of prominent authorities such as the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort; the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez; the vice-president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez; the counselor of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León; and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, among other representatives from the institutional, business, and social spheres of the island.

The organization has stressed that this cancellation is an exceptional measure and beyond its control, and has reiterated its commitment to the holding of the forum on a new upcoming date, thus maintaining its objective of consolidating itself as a reference space for analysis, reflection, and high-level debate.

The Global South Forum 2026 has the sponsorship of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Society for External Promotion of Lanzarote and Cumbre 8, in addition to the collaboration of Lanis Suites de Luxe, CICAR and the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and the co-organization of Lanzarote Media.
