Seniors from the municipality of Yaiza celebrated 'Grandparents Day' last Wednesday, July 26, and they did so gathered with their grandchildren and children in a cheerful afternoon of fraternization organized by the City Council in the municipal premises for their activities, where poetry, dance and traditional sport of the Canarian ball enlivened this family and friends meeting.

“The figure of grandparents is a reference in our homes that we always recognize and admire, but it is also fair to exalt every July 26 the valuable role they play in the family and society as an example of generosity, love and wisdom,” says Óscar Noda.

In the atmosphere of camaraderie that accompanies the different meetings of seniors in Yaiza, where "companionship, good treatment and humor" is more than palpable, the southern grandparents had a snack, had a laugh, sang, danced and played after attending the declamation of the little Irene and Igara who wanted to make their feelings public in the form of poetry: “my grandparents are my life with them I want to grow and I will never stop loving them...”, were some of the lyrics dedicated to the group.

Águeda Cedrés, councilor for senior care, present in the afternoon of celebration, stressed that “grandparents are a great support for the education of our children, girls and young people and pillars of the first entity, the family, so all gratitude and any effort to care for and pamper them will be insufficient.”

Cedrés also had words of "gratitude for the municipal staff and the group of monitors" linked to the program of activities for seniors, some of whom sent their messages of congratulations and admiration for the grandparents of Yaiza through audios and videos.

During the summer, seniors participate in excursions and three weekly gym sessions on the beach, and will do so until September, to then resume the theater workshops, memory stimulation workshops, traditional sports and artistic performances, among other activities.

“Our grandparents are all tenderness and if they have taught us to love, respect and be grateful, the least we can do is take care of them as best as possible and thank them for continuing to pass on their life experience,” added the councilor.
