This Monday, September 9, José Valle, president of the Chamber of Commerce and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas by designation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, held a key meeting with Álvaro Rodríguez, president of Puertos del Estado. The meeting took place at the headquarters of Puertos del Estado in Madrid and its main objective was to expedite the execution of the last pending intervention in the Port of Arrecife.
Expansion of the Naos dock
Following the completion of the expansion of the Naos dock last July, with an investment of nearly 12 million euros, it has been ensured that cargo ships can dock in the port even in adverse weather conditions. The work consisted of the construction of a 150-meter-long docking dike, which is attached to the south breakwater.
However, to optimize the port's operability throughout the year, it is still necessary to carry out a final intervention that connects this new section with the cruise ship dock, allowing the operation of larger vessels.
Support from Puertos del Estado for the modernization of Arrecife
This intervention, already included in the Master Plan for Infrastructure of the Port of Arrecife from 2006, covers a 165-meter-long section that will connect the dike to the south breakwater and is key in the modernization process of the port facilities of Lanzarote. During the meeting, Puertos del Estado expressed its commitment to the execution of this work and pledged to initiate the request for the necessary reports to advance its processing.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce defended the interests of Lanzarote, emphasizing "the importance of this work for the port development of the island." After this meeting, a follow-up of the next steps and close coordination between Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of Las Palmas will be maintained.
In the words of José Valle, "the Port of Arrecife is one of the economic hubs of the island of Lanzarote and needs the coordination of the Cabildo of Lanzarote as the first island institution, the Port Authority of Las Palmas as the managing body, and the Chamber of Commerce as the representative entity of the island's business community. Only with this joint effort will we be able to materialize the pending investments as quickly as possible."
