In response to the news published by the EFE Agency, in which it was stated that "Canal Gestión requests that the ruling ordering the review of its contract in Lanzarote be executed", the company has issued a statement in which it categorically denies said information. The company assures that it has not requested the execution of any ruling to review its contract with the Lanzarote Water Consortium.
In addition, Canal states that "no ruling has ordered, annulled or reviewed the current contract." This statement is incorrect since, as La Voz published, in February 2019, the Supreme Court upheld the ruling of the TSJC that ordered the review of the awarding of water to Canal. That ruling described the Consortium's action as "controversial" and concluded that there were "surprising alterations" in the specifications "for the benefit" of this Madrid-based company. That ruling ordered the Insular Water Consortium to initiate a process to review that awarding and determine whether it should be declared null and void, given that the court found numerous grounds for annulment.
"We find it incomprehensible that information is disseminated that, far from providing clarity, only generates uncertainty around a good as essential and scarce as water. We do not know with what intentions this news has been disseminated, nor where it comes from, but we do know that its content does not correspond to reality," the company states.
In the statement, the company expresses its "concern about the dissemination of information that, instead of providing clarity, generates uncertainty around a resource as essential as water." "We do not know with what intentions this news has been disseminated, nor where it comes from, but we do know that its content does not correspond to reality", the company points out.
"We demand that all those involved act with the utmost rigor and responsibility in the dissemination of news about a matter as sensitive as this, and that such information be rectified." And they add that "water management cannot be tarnished by misunderstandings, erroneous interpretations or inaccurate, untrue or false information that generates - or may generate - unnecessary alarm in citizens."
From the company they assure that "our firm commitment to the management of this essential service, respecting at all times the contractual framework and current legal system and always working to maintain the service".
In addition, they affirm that "we reserve the right to take appropriate legal action and/or demand responsibilities against any author of these undesirable and unwanted actions, especially if the dissemination of this type of information affects our reputation or interferes in the correct development of our functions".
Finally, they state that "water is an essential resource for life and its management requires seriousness, transparency and commitment".
