The San Bartolomé City Council has celebrated the act of changing the name of Pío XII street, which is now called 'Calle Afilarmónica Femenina Las Revoltosas'. According to the Council, "this is a way to honor and perpetuate the pioneering work done by these women, who managed to be the first female murga in the Canary Islands".

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, points out that "these women are true precursors of the carnival culture, who managed to break down gender barriers and social stereotypes, placing this municipality as what it is, an open space for tolerance and innovative in the management of social issues".

"For San Bartolomé it is a feeling of pride that from now on, in its endless catalog of awards, its inspiration for other female murgas and its appointment as afilarmónica, they also add having a street dedicated", points out Pérez.

The current director of the murga, Lina Martín, has been in charge of unveiling the plaque with the new name of the street, accompanied by the members of the group. Likewise, the former director Aurea Mauri received a gift from the Corporation "to value the work done during all the years of direction". The event featured the musical performance of the artists Almudena Hernández Toledo, Adrián Niz, the Batucada Guaychara and the Afilarmónica Las Revoltosas.

The Afilarmonica Las Revoltosas "is a reference of the Carnival of San Bartolomé, first of all, and of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands later", they emphasize from the City Council. This association, constituted at the beginning of the 80s, as Murga "Las Revoltosas", is distinguished as the first female afilarmónica of the Canary Islands in 1997, "marking a milestone in the history, culture and memory of the people", they conclude.
