Agents of the Civil Guard Traffic arrested on the morning of January 1 a man who was caught driving drunk and with a vehicle that had previously stolen from a garage.
The events occurred at 3 am, when agents were conducting a preventive alcohol control within the special New Year's Eve service. At that time they saw an Audi A 8 that "was approaching zigzagging at low speed", so they stopped him, "showing at first sight that the driver was under the influence of alcohol".
Once identified, they found that it was a young tourist without known residence in Spain, and proceeded to perform the mandatory alcohol test, yielding a rate of alcohol in exhaled air that almost quadrupled the permitted limit of 0.25 milligrams of alcohol per liter (mg / l). On the other hand, the driver was in breach of the time restrictions established by the Autonomous Government as a measure to control Covid-19 in the province of Las Palmas, limiting the mobility of people between 01:30 and 06:00 hours.
As he had no known address in the national territory or give sufficient bail to guarantee his appearance before the judicial authority, he was arrested.
In reference to the vehicle driven by this person, by the agents were made the appropriate steps to locate its owner, who was unaware of the theft of the car until that time, as he had parked the day before in his garage with the keys on.
The theft of the vehicle was reported later at the Main Post of the Civil Guard of Tías, being investigated the alleged perpetrator of the events for a crime of theft.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court of Instruction in functions of guard of Arrecife.
