Officials from the Local Brigade of the Judicial Police of the National Police Corps Station in Arrecife have proceeded to identify and arrest Airan S. S., a 24-year-old native of Telde, who has been arrested on 17 occasions, 4 for fraud, 2 for document forgery, and the rest for different criminal acts, and Vanesa J.H., a 26-year-old native of Badajoz, both residents of Puerto del Carmen, Tías.

As explained in a statement sent yesterday to this editorial office from the General Directorate of the Police, the officials of the aforementioned Local Brigade set up the police device and initiated the pertinent procedures for the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrators after the manager of a commercial establishment in Arrecife reported the fraudulent purchase of three laptops valued at 3,840 euros.

To carry out said fraudulent purchase, those mentioned would present themselves at the corresponding establishment and express their desire to acquire computers, as in this specific case, or plasma televisions as they did in other establishments in Arrecife and Tías. To finance said purchases, the detainees presented a payroll from a brewery in Puerto del Carmen in the name of María Begoña G.E., the identity of a citizen currently absent from the Island, as well as the contract for a credit card from one bank and the current account contract from another bank, all under the same name.

The acting agents visited several establishments where they were aware that the detainees had attempted to acquire items, verifying that the descriptions were always coincident and that the said Vanesa (alias Mª Begoña) was accompanied by her two-year-old son.

In their investigations, the officials located Airan when he was leaving a bazaar on José Antonio Street in Arrecife, where he had tried to buy a plasma television, and proceeded to arrest him and transfer him to the Police Station.

Vanesa J.H., alias Mª Begoña, was then identified and arrested by the aforementioned officials when she was about to enter the aforementioned establishment, and among the effects seized was a purchase invoice for two televisions for an amount of 3,798 euros.

After the pertinent police procedures were completed, both detainees were placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, which ordered the imprisonment of Airan S.S. and the release with charges of Vanesa J.H.
