A three-year-old girl died this past Wednesday in Lanzarote after suffering a drowning in a swimming pool. The incident occurred in the afternoon in a holiday home in Tinajo.
The foreign minor was spending a few days on vacation on the island with her family when she ended up falling into the swimming pool of the tourist accommodation.
After alerting the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES), two agents from the Local Police of Tinajo went to the scene. At that moment, the agents began to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the girl, as she was in cardiorespiratory arrest.
At that moment, a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) also arrived, which continued to perform the resuscitation technique and managed to get the girl out of arrest momentarily.
Finally, the minor died without the Canary Islands Emergency Service paramedics being able to save her life.
Three minors dead in hotel swimming pools
With this drowning, four minors have lost their lives so far this year in Lanzarote due to drowning in swimming pools or the sea. At the beginning of summer, last June, a four-year-old girl, of British nationality, died in a swimming pool at a hotel in Playa Blanca (Yaiza).
Just a few days later, also in June, a five-year-old minor was rescued in serious condition after suffering an incomplete drowning in a swimming pool at another hotel in Puerto del Carmen (Tías).
At the beginning of August, another four-year-old minor of French nationality died in a hotel in Puerto del Carmen (Tías). That same month, on August 22, another three-year-old minor was evacuated with drowning symptoms from Papagayo beach, who was pulled from the water by other bathers and urgently evacuated to the hospital.
On September 3, another minor died after suffering a drowning in the swimming pool of a hotel in Playa Blanca. He was evacuated by helicopter after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest and although he was transferred to the Materno Infantil University Hospital of Gran Canaria, he died the following day.
