A 4-year-old girl of French nationality died this Sunday after suffering a drowning in the pool of a hotel establishment in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, according to the information gathered by this newspaper.
The minor was on vacation in Lanzarote with her parents and grandparents when the tragic event occurred. For the moment, the circumstances in which the drowning occurred and the time the girl may have remained in the water before being located are unknown, as reported by Canarias 1.500 KM de Costa.
The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received the alert at 4:48 p.m., warning that a minor was in cardiorespiratory arrest in the hotel pool.
A Basic Life Support ambulance and a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) were dispatched to the scene. Before the arrival of the health teams, the establishment's lifeguard initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and used a semi-automatic external defibrillator (DESA).
Upon arrival, health personnel continued with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers for approximately one hour. Finally, the responsible doctor confirmed the death of the minor as it was not possible to reverse the cardiorespiratory arrest.
This new event once again places the focus on the aquatic accidents registered in pools on the Island in recent weeks. Last June, a child lost his life after suffering a drowning in the pool of a hotel establishment in Playa Blanca, while just a few days ago another minor had to be rescued in serious condition from the pool of a tourist complex in Puerto del Carmen, where she was stabilized by emergency teams and transferred to a hospital center.
