They rammed a stolen vehicle, damaging the shop window, a door, and a shelf, but they failed to obtain any goods.
This Thursday, November 24th, at approximately 06:20 in the morning, three hooded individuals unsuccessfully attempted to rob a jewelry store in Puerto del Carmen, located near the Atlántico Shopping Center, using the ram-raid method, ramming a stolen vehicle into the establishment. The store's alarm, connected to a security center, alerted a patrol of the Civil Guard of Tías, who are still searching for the perpetrators, who fled in another stolen vehicle.
According to official sources, the three individuals used a Nissan Patrol stolen a few days ago from a resident of Arrecife, which crashed into the shop window, damaging the door and a shelf.
But the alarm and security measures worked well, and the three assailants were surprised by a Civil Guard patrol as they were fleeing upon noticing the presence of the Authority. The three hooded men, who according to eyewitnesses were also wearing dark clothing, fled without any loot and at full speed in a stolen BMW, whose license plate apparently could not be captured.
The Armed Institute has opened proceedings and is searching for the perpetrators of the attempted ram-raid robbery. For the Civil Guard, there is no doubt that it was a totally planned robbery, given the use of a stolen vehicle that the criminals knew they would have to crash into the shop window, and the availability of a second vehicle also stolen and used for the getaway.
Security in jewelry stores
The Insular Directorate acknowledges that the security measures established by the Citizen Security Law were well applied in this case, to the point that the alarm went off at the moment of impact, activating the agents of the Armed Institute.
In April 2005, after several similar robberies committed on the Island in which the alarms were not activated because the premises did not meet the minimum security measures required, the Insular Directorate of the State Administration addressed several businesses to insist on their obligation to comply with this series of measures, including having an alarm connected to a contracted security center, which notifies the Civil Guard and the National Police, depending on the demarcation.
Among the establishments that must comply with these minimum security standards, which do not include the mandatory installation of a camera circuit but do include the existence of a safe or security box, are ATMs, antique galleries, safes, service stations, gambling venues, or banks and savings banks (credit institutions).
