The 26-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday in critical condition after suffering a traffic accident in Yaiza, ended up dying in the hospital. According to the Consortium after the accident, the young woman was a resident of the island and of Colombian origin. However, other sources have specified to La Voz that she was a native of Italy, while the young man who was traveling with her was Colombian.

The accident occurred at around 4 p.m. last Wednesday, on the road that connects Yaiza with El Golfo, when the car ran off the road and overturned. According to La Voz, the young woman was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Traveling with the deceased was another young man, 34 years old, who only had minor injuries.

After the impact, the young woman suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. According to La Voz, although the paramedics managed to "recover her", the young woman remained in arrest for between 20 and 25 minutes. It was a lifeguard who came across the accident while traveling through the area who performed the first resuscitation maneuvers. Then several agents of the Local Police arrived, who helped her with these basic maneuvers, according to what the Coordinating Center for Security and Emergencies explained at the time.

Two ambulances, one basic and one medicalized, were dispatched to the scene. In the first one, medical personnel from the Playa Blanca health center were traveling, who resumed resuscitation maneuvers upon arrival at the scene. When the medicalized ambulance arrived, advanced resuscitation maneuvers began and the paramedics managed to get the girl to regain her pulse, reversing the arrest. However, after having been without a heartbeat for those 20 or 25 minutes, her condition upon entering the hospital was critical. According to La Voz, she ended up dying in the hospital less than 48 hours after the accident.
