The head of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Arrecife agreed this Monday to lift the secrecy of the summary in the case opened for the death of Romina Celeste Núñez, for which her husband remains in provisional prison charged with a crime of habitual abuse and another of homicide or murder.

After agreeing to this measure, the judicial authority has confirmed that the organic remains found on Las Cucharas beach are human and correspond to a piece of lung, although so far it has not been possible to confirm whether they belong to the young woman, who was 28 years old. For this, we are waiting to have DNA from a family member of Romina, who was a native of Paraguay and had no family on the island, to be able to compare it.

As La Voz de Lanzarote reported at the time, the discovery of this organic fragment occurred on January 5, when Romina's disappearance had not even been reported. The person who found it was a person who works on that beach and at the time thought it belonged to an animal, so he deposited it in a container. However, when days later he learned through the media the news of Romina's disappearance and later the search that had begun on the island's coastline, he decided to notify the Civil Guard, who managed to recover these organic remains. He then sent them to the Forensic Anatomical Institute for analysis, confirming that they were human remains and that they could belong to the young woman.

The husband claims that he found her dead in the bathroom

As for the husband, 44 years old, the Court confirms that "at no time has he confessed to the crime", although he has given details of how he got rid of the body. According to his testimony, "he found his wife dead in the bathroom when he arrived home and, frightened, burned her mortal remains and then made them disappear in different parts of the Lanzarote coast."

From the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, they specify that the lifting of the secrecy of the summary "does not mean that the proceedings are now public, but that access to the process is allowed to all the parties involved (until now, only the Public Prosecutor's Office could consult the preliminary proceedings), that is, to the defense and to the private prosecution, appearing in the process on behalf of the family of the disappeared".

In addition, they specify that the investigating body, the only court in Lanzarote with jurisdiction in Violence against Women, continues to carry out reserved tests.

It should be remembered that Romina had denounced her husband for mistreatment only two days before her wedding, last August. In addition, three days before dying, she went to the Emergency Room of the Molina Orosa hospital, although after a long wait she decided to leave without being attended to. "This one almost kills me, I don't think I'll tell the next one", Romina wrote that day to a close person, in a Whatsapp conversation to which the agents had access.
