The Arrecife Local Police activated an eviction device this morning, alerted by residents of the Altavista neighborhood. A source of unsanitary conditions and insecurity has been sealed this Thursday after the eviction of a group of people who were allegedly violent, according to the Arrecife City Council. The council assures that they "terrorized the neighbors" in this construction next to the neighborhood church of Altavista, who used the basements of the paralyzed construction for years, where the social residence of the Hermanos de la Cruz Blanca was projected.
Faced with these new episodes of violence, the mediation of the Local Police carried out this morning, at dawn, has made it possible for these people to leave the place. In parallel, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, ordered several crews from the Department of Public Works to reinforce the outer fence, and wall up the areas that were used in the basements by drug addicts and squatters.
The Arrecife City Council reports that a residence for the elderly and other social uses will be located there. The mayor of the city has confirmed that the Diocese of the Canary Islands, owner of the land, is finalizing the construction of the new social building soon.
The residents of the Altavista neighborhood, residing next to the Parque de Los Luchadores and near the parish church, had been suffering this situation of "drug addicts and squatters" for a long time, the city council assures.
