The construction sector in Lanzarote is experiencing one of its most dynamic phases in recent years. According to data from the socioeconomic situation report by the Canarian Confederation of Employers (CCE), the island stands out within the Archipelago with a 30.9% increase in wholesale cement sales during the first eight months of the fiscal year.
Between January and August 2026, Lanzarote sold a total of 52,809 tons of cement compared to the 40,342 tons recorded in the same period last year. This advance places the island at the forefront of absolute volume growth in materials within the Archipelago, surpassed only in relative percentage by El Hierro (+32.2%, with 2,875 tons) and by a large margin from islands like Gran Canaria (+1.3%) or Tenerife (+1.2%).
The dynamism of the island's sector is confirmed by observing August in isolation, where 6,347 tons were consumed, representing a year-on-year increase of 28.7%.
The intensity of on-site activity is also directly reflected in the island's labor market. Unemployment in the construction sector in Lanzarote decreased by 9.5% year-on-year in August, bringing the total number of unemployed in this sector to 440 people (compared to decreases of 2.5% in Fuerteventura or 4.7% in Tenerife).
This local behavior is part of an autonomous scenario influenced by the strong impetus of public works. In the Canary Islands as a whole, official tenders accumulated until August reached 1,858.8 million euros, representing an increase of 84.0% compared to 2025.
In the province of Las Palmas, the volume of public tenders grew by 79.7% year-on-year to stand at 827.0 million euros, driven decisively by Local Administration, which increased its provincial tenders by 147.1% (adding almost 658 million euros).
