The judge of the Investigating Court number 1 of Arrecife, in her dual capacity as duty judge and head of the only Court of Violence against Women on the island, has agreed to the provisional committal to prison without bail of Romina's husband for the alleged commission of the crimes of habitual abuse and homicide or murder of his wife, who has been missing since January 1.
The qualification, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, will be specified throughout the investigation.
The instructor has adopted this decision after taking a statement from Raúl Díaz Cachón, 44, for about two hours, and in accordance with the request of the Public Prosecutor. The investigation continues under summary secrecy and is the responsibility of the Court of Violence against Women number 1 of Arrecife.
A complaint of mistreatment and a visit to the Emergency Room
Although Romina's husband only confessed to finding his wife dead and disposing of the body, the judge considers that there are sufficient indications to consider him also responsible for the death of the young woman and therefore charge him with homicide or murder. The difference between the two crimes lies mainly in whether there was premeditation in the crime, which is what is intended to be determined during the investigation.
Regarding the charge of habitual abuse, there is at least one complaint that Romina filed in August against her husband for abuse, as La Voz had already published.
In addition, the Civil Guard agents have also collected data on other possible episodes of abuse. The last one would have allegedly occurred two days before her death, when the young woman went to the Emergency Room of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife with various injuries. That day, according to sources close to the investigation, the young woman ended up leaving the hospital because they were taking too long to attend to her.
