The National Geographic Institute has registered this Wednesday morning a tremor of magnitude 2.9 in the sea off the coast of Lanzarote. However, the distance of the epicenter has meant that it was not noticed on the island, despite being classified as orange level.
The tremor was recorded at 7.19 am and adds to other similar episodes that occur frequently in the Canary Islands, although usually further away from Lanzarote and of lower magnitude. In the last three days alone, four other tremors have been recorded near the islands.
Three of them took place off the coast of Tenerife and were of yellow level, with magnitudes of between 1.5 and 1.9, while the fourth was in El Hierro, in this case also of orange level and with a magnitude of 2.3. As for Lanzarote, in the last month there had not been a seismic movement at that distance from the coast.
