The driver of the car that crashed into a taxi in Playa Blanca on Christmas morning tested positive for drugs and alcohol, as confirmed by the Civil Guard. As for the taxi driver, who was critically injured, he was transferred this Wednesday evening to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria.
According to witnesses, the vehicle in which two 28-year-old Italian young men were traveling was driving in the same direction as the taxi, ahead of it, and at one point its driver lost control of it and crashed into the guardrail, so that the car was across the lane without the taxi driver, 60 years old, could dodge it.
The driver of the vehicle, resident in Lanzarote, is currently facing a crime against road safety for driving under the influence of alcohol and for the injuries caused to the taxi driver in the accident. And, although he also tested positive in the 'drug test', the results of these devices are approximate and must be verified in the laboratory, as explained by the Civil Guard.
After the impact, the taxi driver went into cardiorespiratory arrest and, after the SUC paramedics managed to reverse it, he was transferred in critical condition to the Molina Orosa Hospital. However, in the evening, due to the severity of his injuries, he was evacuated to the Doctor Negrín Hospital of Gran Canaria.
As for the young Italian who was driving the other vehicle, he suffered a mild hip trauma and was also admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital, although on Wednesday night he had been discharged.
