A Court in Arrecife has ordered the imprisonment of the man accused of robbing a house in Tahíche and fleeing in a stolen van. The Local Police of Arrecife, in collaboration with the Civil Guard, arrested the accused last Saturday, November 9, on Juan Negrín Street, near the Disa service station in Arrecife after receiving an alert the day before.

There he was intercepted by agents of the Citizen Attention Operational Group of the Local Police of Arrecife (GOAC). During the operation, they managed to recover the vehicle that had been stolen and the device allowed them to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator of the robbery.

The agents, after the alert for the theft of the vehicle was activated, set up the device using license plate readers and the video camera center. In addition to the theft of the van, he allegedly also stole a tablet, a television set and a camera.

According to a press release from the Arrecife City Council, "the person arrested, and imprisoned, has numerous police records related to drug trafficking and consumption, both in Teguise and in the municipality of Arrecife."

This November marks the first year of the deployment of the security video cameras installed by the Arrecife City Council in different areas of the city. This system allows the coordination of traffic and carry out investigation work in the face of different crimes where vehicles are involved. Surveillance is carried out from the control center in the new headquarters of the Local Police of the capital of Lanzarote.

The lieutenant chief of the main post of the Civil Guard has sent a letter of congratulations and recognition to the agents to the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who is also directly responsible for the Local Police, where he recognizes "the good use and optimization of the technical material resources of the Arrecife Local Police Corps, and the collaboration and proactive attitude to successfully close the capture and arrest of the perpetrator of these robberies".

The Local Police emphasizes that "the combination of the use of different means facilitates the location of stolen vehicles and optimizes the effectiveness in the resolution of this type of crime, by allowing the identification of those involved before they leave the vehicle. This increases the chances of arrest, especially of repeat offenders in this type of crime."
