Personnel from the Tax Service of the Civil Guard assigned to the Territorial Fiscal Patrol and the Office of Fiscal Analysis and Investigation have carried out an important action against industrial piracy after locating a premises located in the capital's neighborhood of La Isleta, in Gran Canaria, discovering a large quantity of counterfeit products.

Within the framework of the investigations carried out with the aim of finding points of sale and distribution of "pirate" goods from the Asian continent and illegally introduced into Spain, the civil guards managed to seize 9,326 articles with luxury brands, designs, anagrams, logos and labels of prestigious international firms.

The seized merchandise, some 3,700 women's bags of different sizes, 3,000 glasses, 1,800 keychains, 82 caps together with another 800 accessories, was sealed and deposited at the disposal of the court in this establishment, all with a value of almost six million euros (figure that would be obtained from profits) according to the official appraisal and based on the price of the originals.

These seized articles are imitations of great quality, practically imperceptible to differentiate the original product of the brand with the counterfeit. For such acts, the owner of the merchandise was arrested, a 35-year-old woman originally from China and resident in the Canary Islands, accused of a crime against industrial property. The proceedings were sent to the Investigating Court Number Six of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Due to the value of the seized merchandise, this is the most important operation against industrial piracy that has been carried out in the Canary Islands during 2007.
