The first boat was detected by the SIVE radars at around 7:30 p.m. this Monday when it was sailing about five nautical miles from the east coast of the municipality of Teguise. A Maritime Rescue ship set off to meet it, but the boat managed to reach land and its occupants dispersed through the area known as Playa de Las Salinas, Los Cocoteros (Teguise).
The Civil Guard immediately established a search operation, managing to locate seven immigrants (six young men between the ages of 13 and 16, along with an adult woman), all from Sidi Ifni (Morocco). The boat was stranded in a very rocky, difficult-to-access place.
In the early hours of the morning, around 2:00 a.m., the SIVE detected another suspicious boat sailing about six nautical miles from the east coast of Lanzarote. The Civil Guard's "Río Guadalope" patrol boat quickly headed towards the area, managing to intercept the boat, in which only one 27-year-old Moroccan immigrant was traveling, who stated that he had left alone from Tarfaya.
This small boat had an inscription with a registration and license plate number, being the typical wooden boat used for artisanal fishing, and several fishing tools were also found inside.
