The Civil Guard has arrested this morning a 25-year-old Moroccan citizen as the alleged perpetrator of the death of an English tourist whom he allegedly stabbed several times during a brawl that occurred this morning in a bar in a shopping center in Costa Teguise, northeast of Lanzarote.
The English tourist, about 40 years old, died around 05:00 hours in the vicinity of the Celeste apartment complex, after falling to the ground badly injured after receiving several stab wounds.
The incident occurred in a bar in the "Nautilus" shopping center, near the aforementioned apartment complex, on Islas Canarias street in Costa Teguise.
A group of Moroccans and another of Englishmen were in said establishment, where the fight originated, according to sources close to the case.
The verbal discussion ended in a fight between two sides, in which bottles and glasses were used. For reasons that are still unknown, a discussion arose between some members of the two groups and in the course of it one of the Moroccans brandished a knife with which he allegedly inflicted five stab wounds on one of the English subjects.
In the course of the fight, the Moroccan, now arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the victim's death, left the premises where it occurred and went to his home, where he got a knife with which he returned to the scene of the events and stabbed the British man several times, the sources added.
Following the alert from one of the witnesses, the Civil Guard went to the scene and the agents of the armed institute alerted the NGO Red Cross, which sent an ambulance to the scene. The sanitary technical personnel detected the absence of pulse and spontaneous breathing of the victim, so cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were immediately started, supported a few minutes later by the medical personnel of the medicalized ambulance of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) who also appeared at the scene.
Despite the efforts made, the victim's condition could not be reversed and the doctor diagnosed death shortly after. The deceased also had perforating wounds in the left hemithorax, abdomen and pelvis.
The alleged perpetrator of the stabbings left the Englishman badly injured and left the premises again to change clothes and try to hide his participation. However, Civil Guard officers proceeded hours later to his identification and arrest after initiating an investigation to clarify the facts.
