Agents of the Investigation Group of the Main Post of Tías carried out an important operation against industrial "piracy" inspecting several bazaar-type establishments located in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen.
As a result of having suspicions about the illegal commercialization of "pirate" electronic material and other counterfeit effects, the Civil Guard established a device to locate these premises, launching the so-called Operation Malibu.
The aforementioned operation concluded this week with the arrest of three merchants of Hindu origin for committing crimes against industrial property, from whom a large quantity of electronic products such as digital cameras, compact discs, DVDs with movies and games, video cameras, MP-3 and MP-4 players, video game games, etc. were seized, being imitations with brands of recognized renown with prices equal to the originals.
In addition, effects and accessories such as watches, belts, sunglasses or keychains, counterfeits with brands of prestigious commercial firms, were seized.
During the development of Operation Malibu, both in the investigation phase and in the intervention phase, a large number of civil guards acted together with a tax expert attached to the Anti-Piracy Commission of the Ministry of Culture who has valued all the merchandise seized at more than 300,000 euros.
