The Arrecife City Council intervened this Thursday in two plots located on León y Castillo street, in the Las Rapaduras area, "which were full of all kinds of waste" attracting "insects and rodents" and "generating a significant source of infection and bad odors that is seriously harming the residents."

Likewise, the Animal Protection and Environment Unit (UPA-M) of the Arrecife Local Police has proceeded to the precautionary seizure of three dogs "that presented a significant problem of lack of hygienic-sanitary conditions." According to the City Council, they were in "deplorable" conditions and "their lives were in danger."

The Unit, dependent on the Local Police of Arrecife, had to intervene and enter the site, "since two of the animals were inside a room attached to a wall that is about to collapse, surrounded by excrement, urine, rubble and all kinds of garbage." After the rescue by the UPA-M, the dogs were transferred by the veterinarian and operators of the Municipal Kennel, who will assess their condition.

"With this action, the City Council is putting an end to a significant source of unsanitary conditions in the city," said the head of Health of the Arrecife City Council, Samuel Martín. For his part, the Councilor for the Local Police, David Duarte, explained that the cleaning work will resume this Friday and "the appropriate measures will begin to be taken to be able to rescue another three dogs that are still inside." The cleaning and clearing work on the site also involved the Departments of Cleaning and Works.
