The Civil Guard of the Main Post of Tías has arrested a suspected mugger who ended up appropriating 1,500 euros in cash and various belongings after allegedly perpetrating three robberies with violence against people.

According to a press release issued by the Armed Institute, the Civil Guard began investigating a series of criminal acts that occurred in recent days in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen and whose victims were European tourists.

These events were mainly characterized by the aggressiveness and violence used by the criminal, who was very elusive and had great ease in escaping police action.

The first victim was a German tourist who was walking along Avenida de Las Playas and from whom a backpack was snatched using the snatching procedure.

Another victim was a German woman who, while walking along the beach, received a strong push, fell to the ground and had her handbag stolen.

Another British tourist was also approached on Avenida de Las Playas, being grabbed from behind and after a struggle with the thief, he seized her wallet and fled.

Several agents from the Investigation Area and the Citizen Security Area of the Civil Guard of Tías established a special surveillance device aimed at detecting the presence of the criminal and arresting him.

As a result of this operation, the civil guards managed to locate and arrest him on Avenida de Las Playas, just at the moment when he was stalking another victim whom he intended to rob.

The detainee, who responds to the initials B.E., 33 years old and a native of Morocco, has been placed at the disposal of the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number Four acting as Duty Guard in Arrecife.

The agents continue with the investigations given the suspicion that the detainee could be involved in more assaults committed in other parts of the island of Lanzarote.
