A 15-year-old red Seat Ibiza became a real fireball this Tuesday around 3:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Chimidas Street, in Playa Honda.
As explained by the driver, moments before and when she was leaving the garage of a nearby shopping center with the car, she noticed a strong smell of gasoline, which, together with a little smoke that the engine was emitting, made the woman decide to stop a few meters away and, since she did not have a mobile phone, call from a public telephone inside the establishment.
It was there where, surprised by the emission of increasingly dark smoke and a kind of explosion, she could not do anything but watch how little by little the car, to top it off owned by a German friend who is traveling in her native country, was completely burned, and with it the shopping bags, documentation and some cash.
Neighbors and workers from the surrounding premises shuddered at the thought of a possible chain effect caused by the flames, since once the firefighters were alerted, the vehicle was burning a few meters from other cars and homes.
Finally, minutes later a vehicle from the fire department arrived in the area and three agents reduced the spectacular flames. The Local Police and the Civil Guard of San Bartolomé were also commissioned to the scene, instructing the appropriate procedures, controlling traffic and taking care of the driver, who was assisted due to her state of nervousness by a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), and of the pieces into which the car was turned, transported by a crane directly to the scrapyard.
