A total of three flights had to be diverted this Sunday to the airports of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria due to the presence of a drone in the vicinity of the Fuerteventura aerodrome, as reported by Air Controllers on their X profile.
Early in the morning, the arrival and departure of flights was temporarily halted at the Fuerteventura airport after a drone was spotted in the vicinity, so the control tower notified the Civil Guard.
One of the Ryanair company flights from Santiago de Compostela asked air traffic controllers to divert to the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport after waiting in Fuerteventura. The control tower facilitated the direct approach on runway 03.
On the other hand, another Binter flight that took off from Gran Canaria was also in the south of Fuerteventura waiting to be able to land. Likewise, this flight and another one from the company Vueling from Seville were finally diverted to the airport of Gran Canaria after waiting.
Fines for flying a drone
The fines for this type of action range from 60 euros to 225,000 if it is for recreational use, although in case of being sanctioned, the offender should also pay compensation for material damage to third parties, not only the fine, according to the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).
In the event that it is a professional use of the drone, the sanction would range from 4,500 euros to a whopping 4.5 million.
