Agents of the Nature Protection detachment of Lanzarote have investigated a person of Spanish nationality as the alleged perpetrator of an animal abuse crime committed in Soo, in the municipality of Teguise.

Following a complaint filed this month, SEPRONA agents initiated the necessary investigations to clarify the death of some chickens that appeared inside cloth and cardboard sacks, all in a Soo garbage container.

After the corresponding investigations, the agents located the alleged perpetrator of the events, a resident of the area, who would have transported the chickens from a house to the container in a vehicle on the 22nd.

Law 8/1991 on the Protection of Animals in the Canary Islands

The Law on the Protection of Animals in the Canary Islands establishes that the death of live animals must be done through authorized veterinarians and in the facilities of the Experimental Farm of the Lanzarote council; the elimination of the corpses of live animals must be done in the Zonzamas Environmental Complex.

It also indicates in its section 3, of article 4, of Law 8/1991 of April 30 on the protection of Animals of the Canary Islands, says: "The sacrifice of animals raised to obtain useful products for humans, will be carried out, to the extent that it is technically possible, instantaneously and painlessly, and always with prior stunning of the animal, in the premises authorized for this purpose."

The investigated has been made available to the corresponding court, on guard duty, of Arrecife.
