The Heritage area of the Cabildo has reported new "attacks" against the island's historical heritage. One of them was a robbery recorded "recently" at the Zonzamas site, which is the second one it has suffered in less than two months, and which adds to another that took place at the Finiquineo site in March. In addition, damage has been detected to some rock carvings at the Piedra del Majo site.

Regarding the latest robbery recorded at the Zonzamas site, it took place last Saturday and, according to reports, "fortunately did not cause any damage to the archaeological structures." Specifically, what was stolen were some yellow boards that had been installed to mark where to pass and step while working on the site.

However, this is the second time this site has suffered a robbery this year. According to the Cabildo, another one was recorded approximately a month and a half ago, in which two pieces of pottery disappeared.

In addition, it is pointed out that these acts add to "others of a similar nature that have occurred in other sites, pointing out that "they are not even a month apart." And, at the beginning of April, it was also reported that damage had been detected at the Piedra del Majo site.

"Traces of new manufacture were detected on the podomorphic engravings of the site," indicates Patrimonio del Cabildo, which points out that "the rock engravings are of enormous importance, as archaeological documentation, as well as testimony of the aboriginal culture of the Majos."

"Criminal acts like this are an attack not only on our unique archaeological heritage but also on the memory of the first settlers of the island, the Majos. The correct conservation of this fragile heritage is only possible with the respect and involvement of the entire population," adds Patrimonio, which points out that "archaeological heritage is a legacy, an inheritance that we have an obligation to preserve for future generations."

As for the robbery at the Finiquineo site, it took place on March 15. From it they stole "tools and a sight for topographic surveys, as well as some chairs, some benches and a light engine."

It should be remembered that in the last month there have been other elements of the island's heritage that have been the object of criminal acts. Specifically, on the night of last Friday there was a robbery at the Castillo de San Gabriel de Arrecife and at the beginning of the month another was recorded at the Castillo de Santa Bárbara de Teguise.
