A 33-year-old man has been intoxicated by smoke inhalation in a house fire this Wednesday in Arrecife. In addition, two cats that were inside have died while a turtle has been rescued alive, as explained by the Emergency Consortium.

The fire took place around 2:13 p.m. in a house on Iguazú Street when CECOES alerted. Firefighters, National Police, Local Police and an ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service went to the scene.

When the emergency teams arrived, they found that the fire was on the first floor of the house and the flames were spreading along the facade. The intensity of the fire represented a serious risk both for the occupants of the house and for passers-by in the vicinity, so the occupants of the house and nearby neighbors were evacuated to guarantee their safety.

Simultaneously, the firefighters began with the extinction work, concentrating on controlling the fire, which had spread along the facade and was located in the living room of the house. In addition, they have coordinated the rescue of the pets. According to the Emergency Consortium, the two rescued cats underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, although unfortunately it was not possible to save them due to the inhalation of smoke and hot gases during combustion.

The turtle has been rescued without major complications. The staff of the animal shelter has taken charge of the animals.

The emergency teams have established a security perimeter around the building to prevent the approach of onlookers and guarantee the normal development of operations.
