Police drug operation in Lanzarote

The Civil Guard of Las Palmas and the National Police have arrested nine people for the commission of a crime against public health in its drug trafficking form. The detainees, of Spanish and Nigerian nationalities and several with records for these same acts, are accused of introducing significant amounts of drugs between Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, even from another country through "mules" or human couriers inside their bodies or suitcases.

Based on the principle of police collaboration, during this investigation it was possible to show that the investigated allegedly introduced large amounts of cocaine and heroin, as well as other cutting substances that were seized through "mules" or human couriers, who carried it both in the interior of the body and in suitcases and backpacks with false bottoms, in order to hinder police detection.

The circumstance is that in the course of the operation three people have been arrested trying to transport significant amounts of the aforementioned drug between the islands of the province, even from another country.

This investigation shed light on a criminal network that had human couriers transporting drugs between the islands of the province, coming in turn from other countries. The analysis and investigations carried out would lead the investigators to locate the places of concealment of the drug and others of interest to the investigation, proceeding to carry out up to 10 searches in different homes in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

From the result of the searches carried out jointly in conjunction with the seizures carried out during the investigation, a total of 7.5 kilograms of heroin, 29 kilograms of cocaine, 100 grams of hashish, 20 grams of methamphetamine and 1.5 kilograms of cutting substance to adulterate the different drugs have been seized. In addition, more than 70,000 euros in cash, presumably derived from drug trafficking, as well as 4 vehicles and 14 mobile devices were seized.

The investigation carried out by the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police (UOPJ) of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas jointly with the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) of the National Police of Las Palmas began at the beginning of 2023, has been coordinated by the Investigating Court number 3 of Las Palmas, and has been a significant blow to drug trafficking in the province of Las Palmas, with the imprisonment of 6 of the detainees having been decreed.
