The Local Police of Tías dismantled at the beginning of this month an alleged criminal network related to various scams in the rental of vacation homes in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen.

According to a statement from the Tías City Council, the alleged scammers rented the homes and then requested a refund of the money claiming that they had not been occupied.

Tías agents have been aware for several months, through complaints processed in police stations, "of a curious rental modality, where the alleged scammers rented the occupation of villas and vacation apartments in their name on online platforms."

The deception occurred because these villas or vacation apartments were finally occupied by other people and, subsequently, once the vacations were enjoyed, the former claimed the return of the amounts paid, claiming not to have occupied them. On some occasions, the rental payment was made with credit cards that they did not own.

Nightlife venues

In addition, last weekend, officers from the Local Police of Tías, in cooperation with the Civil Guard of Tías, the foreign group of the National Police Corps, and personnel from the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate, carried out various inspections of nightlife venues and identifications in Puerto del Carmen.

This action allowed the processing of the corresponding reports of violations of Law 7/2011, of April 5, on classified activities and public shows and other complementary administrative measures, as well as in matters of labor inspection.
